Sounds like your computer isn't properly setup for Firefox. Can't you just use the Firefox Bookmarks to store the links?

Or right-click the links and choose open with Firefox.

The links you already added with Firefox were identical to the IE ones, hense the same problem.

You need to go to Add Or Remove Programs and make sure Firefox is set as the default program. Another thing you can do is right-click the shortcut file, click Properties, click Choose Program To Open With (or whatever it says) and make sure Mozilla Firefox is chosen. That should solve it. I know there's some specific Windows Explorer option to choose which program handles file extensions but I can't remember it. Hope that helps.

You can transfer your favorites from IE directly over to Firefox by going to Bookmarks %26gt; Organize Bookmarks ..Open the first menu in upper left corner called File you should get an option that says Import. After that you are given a choice to import from Internet Explorer.

You might also install IE tab add-on to Firefox for those pages only viewable with Internet explorer

Why your desktop links don't work is beyond me.
